New to the world
Congratulations! This is an exciting time in your lives, and we are happy to share it with you. We are happy to meet with you before the baby is born. Prenatal consults are done at Noon, Monday thru Saturday, and at 7PM Monday – Thursday. Phone consults can be arranged if getting to our office is difficult for you.
Please go to our home page and Join our E-mail list so you will receive important information - both medical and administrative - from our office.
Our doctors see newborns at:
Long Island Jewish Schneider Children’s Hospital
North Shore University Hospital at Manhasset
North Shore University Hospital at Plainview.
We will see your baby within 24 hours of birth and again before you go home. The hospital will usually call us, but just in case, once the baby is born and you have called all the really important people in your lives, have “daddy” call us too. If it is the middle of the night, just leave a message. A doctor always checks the messages in the morning.
If your delivery will be at another hospital, just ask your obstetrician to recommend a pediatrician to check out the baby in the hospital. Most newborn hospital stays are uneventful. But if necessary, we will talk to the doctors who have taken care of your baby in the hospital. Call us when you are going home and we will arrange to see your baby with 2-3 days.
All babies lose weight in the hospital so don’t worry. Whether you are breast feeding or bottle feeding, we will help you keep a close eye on things until the baby regains birth weight. Usually that involves a visit 2-3 days after you leave the hospital, then again one week later, then again at one month of age. After that, we will see your baby every month until 6 months, then every 2 months until one year of age.

Your baby's insurance
For the first month your baby's medical care will be covered under mommy's insurance policy. Within the first month you need to call the insurance that you want your baby to be covered under, and notify them officially of the baby's birth. You need to do this even if the baby will continue to use mom's insurance. If mom and dad both have insurance the baby is automatically covered under the parent whose birthday is earliest in the year. This can be confusing, so contact our billing department with any questions. (Note: you must be registered and logged in to access this service.)
Immunizations
Many hospitals now offer Hepatits B immunization to your infant during your stay in the hospital. If your baby does not receive the vaccine in the hospital he will get one in our office at one month of age. Medically, we have no strong preference, but for clerical reasons, it is easier if all the vaccines are given in our office.
